Sculpting is creating and morphing a shape into a sculpture, therefore creating 3D art, off the page into your hands and making it the right shape, texture and structure. There are many times where sculpting can get hard, especially if its intricate and small work. If you are sculpting with clay, silicone, polymorph or epoxy putty, all the same rules apply. Sculpting requires an artistic mind, steady hands and alot of patience. Patience makes the stop motion world go 'round.

When you sculpt with clay, make sure the clay is easy to work with. I absolutely hate working with DAS or airdrying clay because it breaks apart frequenty, bleeds heavily when water is applied and is very weak for un-simple shapes. I gladly use sculpey for all my props, and wood for tables and furniture. Make sure the material is easy to smooth, easy to sculpt and not too soft. I love plasticine, as you can use it as a sculpt for molding, and its really easy to work with. With hard sculptures, I would sculpt it in one colour or scrap clay, because then you can paint it after baking instead of using different colour clays. When you sculpt pay attention to the symmetrical side of sculpting. Unless your sculpture is stylized to be so, if one leg on a character is bulkier of longer than another, it looks odd and will prevent your sculpture from standing up. Use a small mirror to determine the angles and shape of your sculpture.
