Ok everyone, I am going to set up an exercise like the 11 second club. The people on the regular 11 second club website do a lot of cgi and rate and judge everyone. I think it would be better to have our own section. This idea was originally LIO's and Mark's, I am just trying to help set it up.

The basic idea is we post a audio clip about 11 seconds long with dialog. And you animate to it. It is a great way to practice lipsync but if you can animate to it without showing detailed lipsync and just use body language then that should be ok also. I will search around for a clip. Please post questions, comments, ideas, subissions under this topic so they all stay together.

Here is the link to the audio clip I chose for the first challenge. It is 11 seconds from "the hunt for red october". The quote is "One of our submarines, an alpha, was last reported in the area of the Grand Banks, we've not heard from her in some time. "

I love the idea of the 11 second audio challenge. If I were to make a suggestion, it would be to post along with the audio clip, a frame by frame breakdown of the audio for the animators to use. (at several frame rate choices) You could post a printable sheet they could use instantly.

Many questions about lipsync have been posted at SMA, which tells me that many (if not MOST) people have a difficult time figuring out how to create a frame by frame breakdown sheet for dialog so, it would be much easier on them if it were simply a printable file they could download or drag off the screen onto their desktop - avoiding that whole process having to be done by everyone who wants to animate the 11sec bite.

I think that an animator who has never animated dialog before would be more tempted to try it and then after having done it just once, would strive to learn how to make the breakdown themselves.
