This is a sculpt I did of my next door neighbor Jack. He is a indian and he goes by Mato. I still have a little work to do with his hair and then I will make molds then cast a few up. Mato has a book coming out soon and will sell some of them with it at a book signing in Colorado. There are 3 pics in my gallery and 1 friends exclusive pic there as well. Thanks for looking - Mike

I didn't know it yet but last week I received an e-mail from "The Coraline Team" asking me if I wanted a free gift. I thought for sure this was a joke and replied almost sarcastically and said Sure, then gave them my address not thinking to much more of it.

Turns out they really were the Coraline team and they really did have a gift. the other day I received a package and seen it was from Portland. I still wasn't sure if this was a joke or not at this point. So I opened it and found a crate like box with many gifts inside. I was amazed at what I found in there. Of the items there were two mouths that were used in the movie with a puppets button eye a viewer from 1905, 7 3-D frames, a skeleton key with a password attached, a photo of the Cat and the mouth included, a letter sealed with wax and a button eye, as well as Henry Selick's Autograph! I couldn't believe it. In the Message they mention this site StopMotionMagic.com and that they have visited my page here. Wow! what a blessing but I don't know why they picked me? There are so many other members on all of the other Stop-Motion sites - Why Me? I was reluctant to show this gift on here for fear of looking like I was boasting. I contacted Marc and he thought it would be good for the site if I shared it. I decided I would and take the best pics I could to share this. Visit my gallery to see the items up close, Also there is 1 FRIENDS EXCLUSIVE PIC! I hope you guys enjoy them - Mike

P.S. Here is the original contact letter they sent me a week or so ago. I just started on the sculpt a few days ago due to complications. I had been waiting for the LED's to arrive and had not yet done so when I needed them. I need them to sculpt around so that I get a perfect fit when I'm making the molds. I did start on a quick sketch of the hands but quickly destroyed it simply because of it's size. Carnby would have been huge had I gone with that scale.
Once I got the LED's I started a new set of hands and then worked myself up to the head and have been there for about 7-8 hours now. I am using a buddy's new wax and so I had a bit of a learning curve to contend with. I have really put myself in a pickle in many regards now. I am sculpting with a foreign material. I have about $850.00 of my own money in this project. I have very little time to get through loads of work i.e. Sculpting a human likeness realistically, Molding, Casting, Painting. I have physically demanding day-job. Countless hours of researching and blogging. And of course the huge fear of flipping it all up at any second.... But I'm having a total blast!!! Anyway, here is Carnby as he was a few hours ago. Feedback would be great, Thanks for looking!

Here is actually the final-final head rotation. I noticed a few things wrong with the last one and had Rich fix them. I also flipped the new revised version and removed the scar so it will help me with the other side of his face when sculpting.
