Looking for Facial Reference
Posted On 06/18/2008 03:12:34

Tonight I'm looking for some facial image references for a sculpture. The sculpt will be for the new affiliate program. What I plan to do is make a business character. I'll put his picture in the affiliate program as a way to promote it....or at least to make it look nicer then a page full of just text. I was planning on doing the frog exersize but this is a little more important for me right at the moment.

The first thing I'm doing is using google's image search. You just go to google.com and click the images link. Here's the first thing that pops up:

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=faces&gbv=2

From clicking the first image I learned that if you average many faces of people together into one - it takes less processing power of your mind to digest it. Making it attactive. I swear, that's what they say

But I need to keep my mind focused. Ok where to find a good looking guys face to sculpt. Ok, let's try search for....sexy faces:

http://images.google.com/images?gbv=2&hl=en&q=sexy+faces

What is this?

what?

Yikes, not exactly my idea of a sexy face. Ok let's try a search for...sexy male model faces. Maybe if they are a model they will look appealing. I'm not making a monster here!

http://images.google.com/images?gbv=2&ndsp=20&hl=en&q=sexy+male+model+faces&star t=80&sa=N

much better

That's more like it. So that is my method of finding pictures for character designs. I'll most likely make him cartoony during the sculpting process and dress him differently. Any time your making a character just remember google images.

Animateclay.com's New Affiliate Program
Posted On 06/16/2008 03:40:26

It's still a work-in-progress, but the new affiliate program is really taking shape. I'm hoping my visitors will take advantage of it since it's one of the easiest ways to make some extra money if you have a web site or blog.

A lot of people on the internet use affiliate programs as a home business to make extra money easily. The most common affiliate program is the Amazon.com program, but to be honest it pays almost nothing. Usually just 6%. Our program pays 45%, almost 7 times the amount.

To summarize what Animate Clay's affiliates do - they just place our banners, ad's or text links with a tracking code on their blogs and web sites. Our affiliate software tracks the visits from those banners to our store. So if a person who buys a product on our page came from your site, you get paid a comission.

So what do you think, does this sound good? Would you consider this on your site? Here is where you can read more and sign up:

STOP MOTION MAGIC NETWORK BRINGS NEW ASSETS TO ANIMATORS

New Site Helps Animators, Students and Studios Promote Stop Motion Projects

There is a new social networking site for stop motion animators by creator Marc Spess, author of the book Secrets of Clay Animation Revealed.

After years of getting involved with various online communities related to the art, Marc realized that stop motion on the Internet is extremely fragmented. This is a major road block for serious stop motion film makers when it comes to self promotion. While stop motion is seeing rapid growth on the Internet, many aspiring animators don't have a central place to meet and share their work.

Many animators have blogs to promote themselves without personal galleries. Some have YouTube pages with many videos but can't post resume information due to the limits of the site. Others have MySpace accounts to promote themselves without videos. On top of it all, neither of these sites is specifically geared towards animation.

Employers have to sift through dozens of sites to find talent, and many animators don't know when jobs are available. That's where the Stop Motion Magic Network brings all these major popular site elements together under one theme.

Some features available at the new network site are for members to freely create customizable profiles. From here they can include personal information about their particular work experience and aspirations. Other members can rate, comment, bookmark and offer advice on the videos, blog entries or images uploaded to their page. Exceptional work becomes featured, making the creator of the work even more visible.

The classifieds area of the site is a great way to network with studios and craftsmen in the trade. Employers can post job offers, artists can post resumes and individuals can offer film making items for sale to those in need.

Groups can also be created by individuals for more specific topics such as sculpting or armature making. In this way members can become more organized in sharing information. Members also have a means of sharing specialized information by writing  forum posts and even chatting on the built-in instant messaging system.

Aside from being a great communication and promotional tool, the site is also a fun and safe place for any stop motion and clay animation fans to visit.

Free Animation Capture Programs
Posted On 04/26/2008 21:51:46

If your wondering how to get started making your own films, you really don't have to worry. There are two free animation programs you can download and use with just your web camera. If your just starting out, you can try animating toys or model kits. That's how just about every animator starts out. Of course if your experienced that idea might sound silly - so go ahead and use a puppet you made.

There are two programs that are free. The first is Anasazi. This program was writted by Penn Taylor many years ago, so for some people it won't work. It's worth trying out though as it's the most simple program to use, plus its very tiny to download.

Anasazi

Download Anasazi here:

The next program is Animator DV. It's a more robust program, and free for non-commercial use.

Animator DV

It is full of features, including onion skinning, chroma keying "blue screen", audioscope and frame averaging for a nicer image. There's really so much that its hard to cover it all without builing another web site. You can find this program online for free use here:
